Collective Action at Work
One way Grennetta Taylor was involved in activism was through the union; although as an African American woman, she is not the stereotypical face of the union. In her leadership role in her union, she was able to facilitate legislative work that helped laborers. The benefits of a union - a space to represent affiliated workers' voices and concerns - is the potential to build relationships and collective strength. These are workplace skills that Grennetta Taylor carried with her into community spaces where she engaged in other forms of activism later in life. She was also able to use the union structure to address structural racism.
