People Make the Place
Karen Clark Keys
Karen Clark Keys speaks about how Cleveland and East Cleveland are shaped by the families who moved here from the South. Everyone comes from somewhere. In the case of a significant number of African Americans in Cleveland and East Cleveland, many of their families came because they were forced to leave the South and proactively sought educational and economic opportunities. In short, they wanted to experience freedom. This desire to live, have, and do "better" generated a certain energy - a "hustle" - where people strived to make their way and get things done.
