Where is the Interest?
Jacqueline Gillon leaves us with the haunting question: "Where is the interest in seeing an African American community thrive?" It places a spotlight on concepts such as place, politics, race, resources, self-determination, and power. Jacqeline Gillon's question prompts us to ask ourselves: Does society, and its people, support a thriving African American community, and what might those communities look like? These questions and concepts may cause discomfort, but rather than ignoring them because they are uncomfortable, we should take them as an opportunity for learning, understanding, analysis, problem-solving, and growth.
